Nice spots to take a book, in Angers

Places to get warm in winter

So you’ve arrived in Angers for a few days, but the rain has put you off strolling the streets and exploring the city... Take the opportunity to take it easy for a few minutes... or hours somewhere relaxing and cosy. We have hunted down a selection of great places where you can sit and relax in a warm atmosphere.

Myriagone

Push the door of Myriagone and discover this unusual place that is far from your traditional book shop. You immediately feel good in this hybrid venue combining a bookshop, café and art gallery. You can enjoy some relaxing reading over a coffee or debate how to make the world better over a freshly squeezed fruit juice. You can also view the exhibition of the moment devoted to graphic arts, which runs alongside the extremely selected collection of books chosen by Andréas Lemaire, the Myriagone’s passionate owner. Children are welcome too – the collection of illustrated children’s books is sure to keep them happy.

16 rue Bodinier, 49100 Angers
Open Tuesday to Saturday from 11.00 am to 7.00 pm

Le Lieu Enchan'thé

Whether you are more sweet or savoury, this is the ideal place to let time stand still for a while, right   in the centre of town. This atypical and very cosy tea room is located on the ground floor of the beautiful Bossoreil mansion. Smiley Sophie welcomes you into her home-like Lieu Enchan’thé (enchanted tea place), for a relaxing lunch or an afternoon break of handmade tea and a delicious pastry. The latter all look so appetising that it is difficult to choose. You almost want to stay a while to taste several of them. If that’s not happiness, what is it?

32 rue David d'Angers, 49100 Angers
Open Tuesday to Saturday from 11.00 am to 6.00 pm

Médiathèque Toussaint

Head to the atrium of the municipal library, just steps from Angers Castle. We love it there! You’ll enjoy a restful view of the garden of the Musée des Beaux-Arts and its many plants. Before you, just books and greenery – a real haven of peace for a cultural break. Of course, this wonderfully serene library boasts a wide choice of books for you to borrow and is even open every second Sunday of the month.

Café .cardinal

It’s impossible not to visit the café .cardinal, either, with its minimalistic, bright and modern interior. Whether near the front window or in the room at the back, the atmosphere is perfectly suited to relaxing with friends or family or to reading or working on your own. While café .cardinal is known in Angers for its soothing atmosphere, the menu is something altogether different! Let the smiley baristas Nicolas and Simon guide you in the choice of a really good coffee, tea or latte. Delicious!

One Way

Nestled in a rear courtyard off the Rue des Lices, the One Way is an intimate and unique place that is well known by locals. This tea room with its warm and carefully chosen décor is ideal for relaxing alone or with others. The extra bonus? You have a choice between sitting by the wood burner with your book, on the patio which is so alluring on fine days, or going upstairs to the treatment room where massages are given. We’ll let you decide how you want to unwind! Before you leave, have a look around the Galerie, which hosts temporary exhibitions of contemporary art. A wonderful find this place, really!

16 rue des Lices, 49100 Angers
Open Tuesday to Friday from 11.30 am to 7.30 pm, Thursday until 10.30 pm, Saturday from 11.30 am to 7.00 pm and every first Sunday of the month for brunch from 10.30 am to 4.00 pm
