On the agenda, you’ll find strolls through historic streets, a tasting of Angers’ famous liqueur Cointreau and a visit to the city castle. Look no further for an excellent weekend destination, just a short distance from Paris!
It’s Friday and your weekend has already begun!
Since Angers is only two hours from Paris, your weekend can start right from Friday evening. After dropping off your bags in one of the hotels offered in this package, you will be able to do absolutely everything in the town centre on foot. To get the weekend off to a good start and for a romantic moment en tête à tête, head to the rooftop of the Le Quai theatre – the views of the river Maine and the château are fantastic from here. You might even want to stay for an al fresco dinner. If you ask, the restaurant will provide a small blanket to make sure you are warm and comfy. Wrapped cosily in your blanket, simply sit back and enjoy watching the night fall and the stars appear.
Two days to explore Angers and spend time together
After a sweet night, a good cup of coffee and a few freshly baked croissants, you can walk to the Château d’Angers via the city’s historic quarter. Its utterly charming paved streets, lined with half-timbered houses dating as far back as the 15th century, will lead you to the imposing fortress castle. Cross the drawbridge and show your City Pass (included in this short break). This will grant you access to the castle and its internal courtyard which, unlike the castle’s exterior, is truly inviting. After having viewed the Medieval Apocalypse Tapestry (the largest of its kind in the world), and visited the French gardens, enjoy some one-on-one time with lunch on a terrace in Angers’ main square, the Place du Ralliement.
An art of living like nowhere else
Your weekend in Angers is also the opportunity to try Angevin specialities like Cointreau, the delicious orange peel perfumed liqueur. The Cointreau Distillery will welcome you for a guided tour through its various spaces, including the stills room. Your discovery will end with a cocktail demonstration and a nice tasting. You’ll have a fun moment together and learn cocktail recipes to make again at home.
To continue in the true Angevin spirit of good living, take a river cruise on a toue de Loire, one of Angers’ traditional boats. You’ll experience a moment of harmony with nature in which time will stand still.
